Business Development Team Helps Furnish Hope

In March 2023, the Danos sales and business development team held a team-building service opportunity at The Houston Furniture Bank whose mission is to furnish hope by making empty houses homes. Its “No Kids on the Floor” project (2023 Danos GIVES grant recipient) works to provide bedding and home furnishings to Houston-area children and families in need.
The Danos sales and business development team spent time working in the Mattress Recycling department. Their day began with a tour of the facility, a safety orientation and an introduction to staff and volunteers. Shortly after, the team began breaking down box springs, picking out cotton from metal coil springs and cutting mattresses open to separate components for recycling.
“The Business Development team had a great time giving back to the community through one of our Danos GIVES grant recipients” says Andy Claerr, Danos vice president of sales and business development. “With the team being spread out from Gray, Louisiana, to Midland, Texas, it can be hard to get everyone together in one place. Working with the Houston Furniture Bank was a great experience that further enhanced our team building time together. This was a rewarding experience for the group.”
In 2022, The Houston Furniture Bank gave away 19,000 pieces of furniture to over 1,800 families. In a typical year, they create about 7,000 mattresses using some of the recycled materials. Oli Mohammed, founder and executive director of The Houston Furniture Bank says, “To thrive, humans require simple creature comforts.”
